If you speak in a loud voice while facing Dai’s palace in front of the Sagar Talab, you will hear the echo of your words This is due to the amazing construction of the edifice: many such structures were constructed in such a manner that anything spoken here could travel as far as 35 km up to Dhar. This was a small example of the highly developed acoustic system of the time.
Echo Point – What Goes Around Comes Around
There is an interesting anecdote about this place that says that, in 1952, Sheikh Abdullah and the then Prime Minister Pandit Jawaharlal Lal Nehru visited Mandu. They were rer suf accompanied by an eminent guide and historian Vishwanath Sharma. When they reached Dai’s palace, Mr. Sharma shouted: “Is Kashmir Pakistan or India’s?” Both Sheikh Abdullah and Pandit Nehru were astonished when the mountains shouted back- “India’s”. They were not aware that only the last words of a sentence are echoed.
ईको पॉइंट – जहाँ से लौटते हैं शब्द
सागर तालाब के सामने दाई के महल की तरफ अगर आप ज़ोर से आवाज़ लगायें, तो आपको आपकी ही प्रतिध्वनि सुनाई देगी। यह स्थान माण्डव का ईको पॉइंट कहलाता है, जहाँ पहाड़ों से आवाज़ टकरा कर वापस लौटती है। इसके सम्बन्ध में कहा जाता है कि यह प्राचीन माण्डव का अपना संचार तंत्र था। धार से माण्डव तक एक निश्चित दूरी पर इस प्रकार की रचनाएँ बनायी गयीं थी, जो आवाज़ को 35 किलोमीटर दूर धार तक ले जाती थी। आज भी इन संसचनाओं के अवशेष दिखाई पड़ते हैं।
इस ईको पॉइंट से जुड़ा एक रोचक मजाकिया किस्सा यह है कि सन् 1952 में भारत के पहले प्रधानमंत्री पंडित जवाहरलाल नेहरू के साथ शेख अबदुल्ला, माण्डव भ्रमण पर आए थे। इनके साथ प्रख्यात गाइड और इतिहासकार विश्वनाथ शर्मा थे। जब प्रधानमंत्री नेहरू और शेख अब्दुल्ला इस पॉडट पर पहुँचे तो गाइड श्री शर्मा ने जोर से आवाज़ लगाई “कश्मीर पाकिस्तान का है या भारत का?” आवाज़ लौट कर आयी “भारत का”। दरअसल, ईको पॉइंट में जो भी कहा जाता है, उसका अंतिम शब्द ही वापस लौटता है।
